International Children's Digital LibraryBooks and libraries exist in cyberspace! This site has digitized books from all over the world. Their goal is to have available a collection of at least 10,000 books in at least 100 languages. The collection is searchable in several ways-try the "simple search" feature. Kansas Parent Information Resource CenterKPIRC is a cooperative venture of several organizations to provide training, information, and support to parents. There are booklets to order, information to download, and notices of conferences. If you have a middle or high school child, there is information for you, too! Go to the For Parents section and click on Links or Downloads to find Middle/High School help. Kansas State Department of EducationThis is the official website of the Kansas State Department of Education and the Kansas Board of Education. There is a link to download booklets for parents under the Publications tab. Read Across AmericaThis link takes you directly to the Parents section of the Read Across America site. You may also want to explore some of the other pages. Ready. Sit. Read! This site has a lot of information about kids & reading! There are also lots of ideas for starting a kids & parents book club. There are suggested books of the month for 4 age levels with book reviews and more. I haven't had time to explore the whole site, but it looks very interesting! Sites for ParentsThis list of over 200 (last time I checked) links and descriptions is mostly for parents of elementary-aged children and younger. Many of them have free materials to download. I have not visited all of the sites listed - you're on your own for that! - but I have used some teacher links on this website and most have been very good. The Partnership for ReadingThis site has several downloadable booklets for parents on what you need to know for birth to preschool, and kindergarten through third grade, to help your child learn to read. Some of the site deals with research about teaching reading. U.S. Department of EducationThis section of the Department of Education website is for you - the parents. There is information all the way from preschool through college. Try the "Tips for Parents" and "Helping Your Child" sections for ideas on ways to help your child with different subjects. Word FamiliesYou can find out what "word families" are and help your beginning reader with ideas at this site.
